Markham Grey Hares

In most sporting activities, provision is made for those people who have “been there and done that.” There is Old-timers Hockey, Masters Swimming, Masters Track and Field, and so on. There is even an organization WAVA (World Association of Veteran Athletes) that has world championships each year in various sports.

Fortunately, Rugby has not been forgotten, and we have “Old Boys Rugby”.

Here in Markham we are known as the Grey Hares, and one has to be at least 35 to play Old Boys, (some of us are well beyond that number).  Since we play full contact (the way it is meant to be played by men of our age), everyone is encouraged to come out, enjoy the game and camaraderie, and NOT TRY to relive their glory days.

The schedule for this year is posted on the website, and we would enjoy meeting up with  new prospective players. Some of the other teams are known as XL’s (they are all over 40), the NOBs (Niagara Old Boys), the Paws (as in Men-O-Paws), and so on. Despite the names, good rugby and good fun are the ultimate goals.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email the grey Hares coordinator at greyhares@markhamrugbyclub.com
